Choreographer, dancer, educator, and licensed massage therapist Lisa Long, provides provides workshop participants with a hands-on routine for releasing blockages in muscles and energy, ensuring optimum mobility and longevity.
This basic class, based upon Anatomy Trains, specifically, the superficial back and front lines, combined with the meridians and tsubos along the meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine provides men and women of all movement backgrounds (from walking to dancing) with a hands-on routine for releasing blockages in muscles and energy. Beginning with a brief visual presentation to introduce the Western and Eastern concepts, the class will continue with a partnered sequence designed to invite physical and energetic harmony back into the body.
Instructor: Lisa Long
Lisa Long holds an MFA in choreography from CalArts and an AA in Occupational Therapy from Swedish Institute NYC. For thirteen years she danced professionally, first for Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and for eight years as a principal dancer with Dance Kaleidoscope, under the artistic direction of David Hochoy (former rehearsal director of the Martha Graham Dance Company). Currently, an assistant professor at Western Kentucky University, she has also taught at CalArts, UCLA, and Butler University. Her choreography has been produced Off- Broadway, at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Electric Lodge, New Works Festival, and for Rogue Machine Theater and has been favorably reviewed by the New York Times. Backstage described her work as “imaginative and inspired.” In 2012 her choreography for Chevrolet won fourth place in MOFILM's Las Vegas commercial competition. Lisa is passionate about passing on her knowledge of technique and love for dance as a transcendent art form to the next generation of dancers.
