Yin was born and raised in China, where she studied classical ballet technique, Chinese classical and folk dance at Shanghai Dance School and at Shanghai Normal University. In 2005, she was ranked among the top ten performers in the National Dance Competition in Yunnan. Frustrated with rigidity of Chinese dance education system and told that with her petite frame she could never be a professional dancer, she moved to New York City to pursue MFA in contemporary dance at New York University’s Tisch School of The Arts.
Yin incorporates elements of Mongolia and Tibet folk dance styles: elements such as “horse riding” steps from Mongolian dance, “prayer” body posture from Tibetan dance with its signature arm flipping, tilting and dragging movement styles made way into her contemporary choreography.
Transformed by Yin’s individual sensitivity and expressive approach, these elements became the inspiration and root material for her own, very personal style, in which she strives to achieve combination of grace, and effortless and strong physical power in which she finds harmony and balance.
Navarra was born in New York City and was fortunate to receive her early training from Elaine Kudo and Buddy Balou in Verona, New Jersey.
In 2006 she graduated from The Juilliard School with a BFA in Dance. She joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal in 2006 where she performed works by choreographers Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, Stijn Celis, Mats Ek, Mauro Bigonzetti, Jean Christophe Maillot, Shen Wei, Didy Veldman, Christopher Wheeldon, and George Balanchine.
In 2009 she moved to Israel to dance in the Batsheva Ensemble. She joined Cedar Lake Contemporary in 2010, where she performed original works by Hofesh Schecter, Crystal Pite, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Jo Stromgren, and Alexander Ekman.
She has taught at Cedar Lake 360&180 summer intensives, at the Southern Vermont Dance Festival, and teaches Gaga throughout NYC.
