This fall, New Dialect will lead 100 metro public high school students in a workshop designed to immerse them in the creative process and reveal some of the many collaborative, choreographic tools and games used in the making of new dances through TPAC Education's HOT program. This workshop will mark our second collaboration with TPAC Education, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in their extraodrinary educational outreach programming again!
Our Creative Process Workshop + Performance is a 2-hour contemporary dance-based movement and discussion “laboratory” facilitated by our company of highly trained professional dancers for students of all skill levels. Through the use of structured improvisation games and discussion with dancers of New Dialect, students have the opportunity to explore the concepts that led to the creation of two of New Dialect’s most recent dance works and to see New Dialect’s company members perform these works live.
We have found that the improvisation games we facilitate give students of varying backgrounds the opportunity to come together to think creatively, practice nonverbal problem solving, and experience team building and collaboration through movement. Our goal is to nurture and encourage each student’s creative self-expression and to further their knowledge and experience with contemporary dance performance on both a personal and collective level.
The workshop will culminate in performance excerpts from our upcoming fall premiere, FOCO, featuring choreography by Idan Sharabi, Yin Yue, and Banning Bouldin.
