L I Z Z Y G R A V E S
Lizzy was born in Vacaville, CA, where she began her dance studies at Vacaville Ballet Theatre. In 2009, she moved to Nashville, TN, and continued her training at Nashville Ballet, performing works by Paul Vasterling and Banning Bouldin. From 2014-2016, Lizzy studied at ArtsUmbrella in Vancouver, BC, under the direction of Artemis Gordon. There she performed works by Lesley Telford, Crystal Pite, Marie Chouinard, James Kudelka, and Medhi Walerski.
Since joining New Dialect as an apprentice in 2016, Lizzy has participated in numerous community outreach initiatives and performed works by Banning Bouldin, Roy Assaf, Rebecca Steinberg and David Flores. She has also collaborated as both a dancer and choreographer in New Dialect’s Third Voice multi-disciplinary residency program.
In addition to her work as a dancer, Lizzy teaches and choreographs at dance studios across Middle Tennessee, including Grassland Dance Academy, where she has commissioned local composers to create original music for her choreography. Outside the studio she is pursuing an Accounting Degree at Belmont University and assists Kevin and Banning Bouldin administratively. She also works with New Beginnings, a local non-profit fitness and nutrition center for women.
2019 marks Lizzy’s first season as a New Dialect company member.
